CycleKarts Return To Laguna Seca!

Scenes from the Paddock and the BIG track!

Because there are SO many good photo and memories we wanted to share, we've made FOUR pages of shots!
It's worth digging through them all to get a feel for all the fun!

CycleKarts return to Laguna Seca Raceway! We had the wonderful pleasure of joining a group of about 20 CycleKarts and their creators in November of 2021. It was the first time we had attended a "modern" gathering of CycleKarts — Ones we hadn't been directly involved in creating, or at least helping out with the process.

Since the public first found out about CycleKarts in 2002, people have been building cars like mad, and now there are all sorts of C-K events all around the world. But we had never been able to make it to one...Until now! When we were invited to join this select group of builders, we were excited to be part of the event. And seeing as how it was in our own old home-turf, how could we not?!?

It turned out to be an amazing event, and Velocity Invitational actually set up a really nice little track made of haybales for us (a whole double truckload of haybales, which was very nice of them, we thought!) One of the most exciting parts for us was the demonstartion lap we did on the ACTUAL track! We did a Le Mans start (a first for Laguna Seca!), and I was the first away! (I did get passed by the newer cars pretty quickly, but the 26-year-old Delage held her own and I was very proud that it did so well through the weekend!) Velocity gave us a nice little area to display six or seven cars at a time, right in the paddock, just next to Striling Moss' 300 SLR Merc —Pretty great company!

This was the first Big Event for Cyclekarts to be invited to. Velocity really made the CycleKart contingent feel included in their whole event, with all of the space, and the demonstration lap. No one was dismissive, and lots of people had a chance to wander over to our track area over the weekend.

One of the most rewarding parts of the long weekend was having a chance to meet so many CycleKart builders and see all of the different approaches people have been taking to the siple starting point Peter and I came up with over a quarter of a century ago. I was really touched by people's comments and enthusiasm, and honored to be a part of such a fun gathering, and movement! It reawakened my own CycleKarting bug, and now I am looking forward to eventually building a few more machines!

A big Thank You to Velocity Invitational, and to Steve Vinson for organising this group of builders, most of whom came from Washington, Arizona, and all across the West.
